I started Scarlet Thistle because I wanted to provide unique, affordable and inspired designer tees and accessories for men, women and kids that promote personal style while tapping into the imagination.

With a comfortable and flattering fit, Scarlet Thistle 100% cotton tees for men, women, and kids offer thoughtful narrative, and intelligent, one-of-a-kind designs for everyday wear designed to infuse a little wonder and rarity into everyday apparel.

My creations offer a unique window into the wonderful and occasionally treacherous world of nature – through original designs including the popular office monster t-shirt and lionfish, deep sea fish, octopus and mermaid t-shirts.

People live incredibly full and busy lives, and they often don’t have the opportunity to stop and notice the wonders around them. From my vantage point as an artist, I am able to see and capture remarkable opportunities for beauty and intrigue in the everyday, and I’m fortunate to be able to share what I see with others.

As a graphic designer, I’ve always been passionate about expressing myself through my artwork, which includes scenic photography, equine oil paintings, and nature-inspired sketches. Incorporating my artistic vision into distinctive t-shirt designs was a perfect way to get my artwork seen and experienced by more people who also enjoy the natural world and its beautiful and mythical creations.

I think people enjoy wearing art on t-shirts for the same reason they need art on their walls. Even though it’s just a picture, photo or design, it can add an additional story or further meaning to their everyday life.

New deep sea fish t-shirt glows in the dark!

I am sending my latest design of glow-in-the-dark, deep sea fish for Jason Sadler to feature on August 21st on www.iwearyourshirt.com . Sadler, Florida marketing guru, will wear a company’s T-shirt for a small daily fee. Then he spreads the word using videos, photos and updates posted to sites such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and his blog.

The design features a triplewart seadevil, a hatchet fish, a fanfin anglerfish, a manefish, and a gulper eel.

The Office Monster is born…

I also had to choose the first designs to have printed.

The first design I made is the Office Monster.

This creature first came into existence a couple of years ago while I was bored at work. I always see the teeth of a beast when I look at those vicious staple removers….but it needed a body. That’s where the ever popular binder clips came in. I love those damn things! So I carefully clipped one to the end of the other and made a spine and tail and legs. The Office Monster soon became lonely. I could see he needed a worthy opponent to keep him busy. I created the Paperclip Spider…

Perhaps he will show up later on another shirt.

All shirts are not create equal.

One of the many decisions I had to make to get this business up and running was choosing the style of shirt to use.I didn’t want to just use one unisex style for the men’s and women’s…although that would have been easier. Occasionally I’ll see a really cool graphic t-shirt and I am ready to put down some cash…until I realize the women’s shirts are just scaled down, boxy men’s shirts. What a disappointment. I want a flattering, fitted style…something soft and a little bit stretchy. After looking at many samples I finally found the baby rib short sleeve crew neck t-shirt from Bella. The 1×1 rib gives it some stretch and shape and the ring-spun cotton is softer than the open end cotton. For the men’s shirts I chose Bella’s Canvas Men’s Greenwich T-Shirt. They are also super-soft 100% combed ring-spun cotton with a modern, slightly fitted style. The feedback I have gotten from my first customers has been positive.
